Vignettes is a meditation on childhood and moments lost.
My painting is not so much about my personal childhood (although the objects represented were/are mine), but rather about the memories that return to all of us, often rushing back to us through small things: a smell, a gust of wind, the way a melody is played. But also, through an object or an image. An image that can evoke an entire range of emotions that were so poignant and intoxicating when first experienced as a young child. Emotions that, over time, we yearn to feel again in the same great capacity. Instead, we find solace in snapshots, small memories and moments, or, as I am trying to express in my piece, "vignettes."
